Wolves let an interval lead slip as they went down 2-1 to Sunderland in a competitive Development friendly at Compton Park this afternoon.
In the opening minutes Nathan Rooney's free-kick was well held by Sunderland keeper Ben Wilson who then made a point-blank save from Johnny Gorman at the far post after a cross from Scott Malone. From the corner conceded, taken by Malone, Ashley Hemmings headed over.
Wolves took the lead in the 15th minute with a towering header from Ethan Ebanks-Landell who connected with a fine cross from David Davis.
Ryan Noble wasn't far off with a piledriver and it needed it two attempts from Aaron McCarey to gather David's Healy's angled drive.
A square pass from Gorman set up the chance for Rooney whose 25-yard effort flew narrowly wide of the post.
Seven minutes before the break, new signing Jake Cassidy, who had not been feeling 100 per cent, was replaced by Andre Landell.
Half-Time: Wolves 1 Sunderland 0
Within two minutes of the restart, former Spurs star Teemu Tainio drove a couple of feet over the bar before the visitors drew level in the 54th minute.
Malone fouled Healy as the two vied for a cross and Healy picked himself up to despatch the spot kick sending McCarey the wrong way.
McCarey did well to hold onto a fierce drive from Noble who had held off Matt Hill's challenge, but the keeper had no chance in the 65th minute as Noble hooked the ball in at the far post after a cross from Adam Reed.
Sunderland almost grabbed a third seven minutes late but Noble's shot rebounded off the crossbar and was cleared.
The woodwork then came to Sunderland's rescue as Sam Winnall's shot from distance clipped the outside of the post with Wilson beaten.
In the closing minutes Andre Landell hooked the ball over the bar from close in and Noble was just wide of the far post after a surging run.
