Reserves Win Against Wrexham

Posted on: Mon 08 Feb 2010

A Wolves team containing seven players with first experience accounted for Wrexham 4-1 in a behind-closed-doors development friendly at Compton this afternoon.

The visitors, made up largely of young professionals, took a first half lead through Louis Moss before Wolves equalised on the stroke of half time through Ashley Hemmings, pictured.

Then goals in the last 15 minutes from Nathan Rooney and Stefan Maierhofer (2) earned Wolves a 4-1 win.

Wolves dominated the early exchanges with Hemmings just missing the target on two occasions before Kyle Bennett and Maierhofer saw a shot and header respectively tipped over by Wrexham keeper Danny Ward.

The visitors then took the lead through a rare attack in the 21st minute, Louis Moss finding the net with a low drive.

Segundo Castillo saw his low shot saved as Wolves responded before Maierhofer and George Friend both had efforts disallowed.

With the last kick of the half however Wolves drew level, Hemmings converting a header from Daniel Jones' cross.

Maierhofer had another effort disallowed for offside shortly after half time before another opening for Wrexham on 69 minutes, Adrian Cieslewitz firing over the bar.

Then two goals in a minute spell a quarter of an hour from time put Wolves in firm control of the match.

James Spray set up Nathan Rooney who struck with a low shot before Maierhofer headed home Nathaniel Mendez-Laing's right wing cross from close range.

Then six minutes from time Maierhofer completed the scoring, finishing off a scramble following a Jones corner.

WOLVES: East, Metcalf (McCone 80), Little, Friend, Jones, Mendez-Laing, David (Rooney 58), Castillo, Hemmings (Spray 67), Maierhofer, Bennett (Reckord 63).
