A Wolves' Development team featuring a healthy sprinkling of Academy players were on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Crewe at Compton this afternoon.
Crewe started well and on five minutes Kelvin Mellor missed an open goal from six yards out firing over the crossbar.
Wolves hit back with Danny Batth seeing a header gathered by Steve Collis on 12 minutes and Sam Winnall, pictured, was then unable to capitalise after a strong run.
Joel Grant caused Wolves problems throughout the game and on 20 minutes thought he'd opened the scoring only to see his shot cleared off the line by Mark Connolly.
Again Wolves responded with Krisztian Simon having a shot pushed away by Collis but the deadlock was broken by the visitors just after the half hour mark.
Shaun Miller seized on a defensive slip to get on the end of Grant's left wing cross and prod the ball past Shane Higgs.
Crewe almost added a second when Daniel Shelley blazed over from Colin Daniel's cross and while Wolves enjoyed a spell of pressure leading up to half time they were unable to capitalise with any clear cut chances.
And they were made to pay within five minutes of the restart as Grant turned well on the edge of the penalty area and shot past Higgs.
Wolves' tried to get themselves back into the game but no one was able to get on the end of a dangerous cross from Melbourne before Winnall embarked on another run before firing into the side netting in the 84th minute.
Victory for the Railwaymen was secured in the last minute as Daniel found the net with a long-range strike.
