Wolverhampton Wanderers Development Centre

Posted on: Thu 02 Sep 2010

Welcome to the Wolverhampton Wanderers Development Centre.

This page is for parents/ guardians of players that have been invited to one of our Development Centres by a WWFC representative.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have Development Centres in operation in the Wolverhampton and Walsall areas for 7-9 year olds, with new centres soon to be opened in Cannock and Birmingham. Wolverhampton Wanderers also operate a goalkeeping Development Centre, for young goalkeepers (aged 7-14) that have demonstrated good potential and talent.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are passionate about football and the development of young players, therefore our Development Centre coaching programmes are centred around developing players technically through ball mastery, opposed work and small sided practices- with the emphasis placed on enjoyment and learning in a safe environment whilst encouraging players to be creative and imaginative in their play.

Our Pathway.

Our Development Centre pathway demonstrates the link between Wolves Academy and Wolves Community Trust. Young footballers are given the opportunity to be identified from Community Trust Activities such as after school clubs, holiday soccer schools or Advanced Centre and to progress along the pathway from grassroots to hopefully become a professional player (for more information on Wolves Community Trust Activities, CLICK HERE.)

The pathway has become a successful development and recruitment method over recent seasons with six academy players (aged 8-11) having been identified directly or indirectly via one of the activities along the pathway so far. The latest addition to our academy is Reiss Corfield, who benefited from progressing along every part of the pathway. After attending WCT Saturday soccer club, Reiss was invited to attend WCT advanced centre, where after doing well, was recommended by staff to attend our Development Centre. Immediately impressing, Reiss was invited to a six-week academy trial where he was subsequently signed as a Wolves Academy player and is about to embark on his second season with us.

Recruitment and identification.

We aim to identify and recruit the best young talent through our extensive scouting network and develop all players at all stages of our pathway. It is important to note that any players that join our Development Centres will still be allowed to play and train for their junior clubs and school teams etc.

Players invited to Development Centre will be initially invited on a short trial basis to allow them to be assessed by staff.

Further Development Centre information.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Development Centres are staffed by FA qualified coaches (Head coaches minimum level 2), who also hold all relevant CRB and child protection certificates. All sessions will have a fully qualified physiotherapist in attendance.

Development Centre players are also required to wear suitable footwear and clothing to all sessions along with a drink. It is important to note that Development Centre sessions are free from charge.
