Hot Off The Press: Blog Volume 11

Posted on: Tue 11 Nov 2008

It wasn't quite enough to attract the attentions of the late Roy Castle or Norris McWhirter.

But Micky Holmes went mighty close to becoming a Wolves record-breaker!

Back in 1987 Holmes achieved the enviable feat of finding the net in SEVEN successive matches, equalling a club record set by Jimmy Murray some 28 years previously.

The target of eight didn't prove all that eight as the midfielder then fell at the final hurdle, failing to score in a defeat at Leyton Orient although quickly re-discovering the knack in the following game at home to Swansea.

It's a record that Kenny Miller has since gone on to level in a run including both league and cup games but proving the only midfielder to achieve the landmark is something of which Holmes remains extremely proud.

Problem is, he has no remaining mementoes of the memorable event.

Now running an upmarket café with wife Bernadette in Leicester City Centre and also managing non-league Oadby Town, Holmes still holds immensely happy memories of life at Molineux rekindled recently both at Steve Morgan's Golf Day at Carden Park and then the Sherpa Van Trophy reunion dinner for the 1988 heroes.

But he would love to get his hands on something tangible from that incredible sequence of games between January and March of 1987.

Whilst being interviewed for a feature included in Wolves' matchday magazine for Saturday's game with Burnley, Holmes recalled posing for a picture for the local media prior to his trip to the Orient with seven footballs to signify the seven goals.

Unfortunately he no longer has a copy of aforementioned photo.

He also has no footage of any of the goals notched during the epic run, and is therefore unable to re-live the experience via the small screen some two decades on.

The question is then, can any Wolves fans out there help?

Holmes would love to get his hands on a copy of the "seven balls for seven goals" photo not to mention view any video footage of the Magnificent Seven.

Anyone who thinks they may be able to help can contact us at comments@wolves.co.uk.
