The Wolves Academy under 18s drew their final game of the campaign when they met Blackburn Rovers at Compton Park this morning.
Neither side could muster a goal in a lacklustre affair and coach Mick Halsall admitted that he was hoping for as better performance from his charges.
He said: "A win today would have given us third place in the League but it wasn't to be.
"We have had a good season overall but lacked a cutting edge against Rovers - we just didn't have enough in our tank to push them back.
"The opening 20 minutes weren't the greatest and I had to take Louis Harris off after he had caught one of their lads with a late challenge.
"I know Louis didn't deliberately try to harm his opponent, but he was booked and after kicking the ball away in a separate incident I decided that he was treading a fine line so I substituted him.
"I think that Blackburn had the only real chance of the opening 45 minutes and Daniel East made a fair save to make sure we went in all square at the break.
"The second-half was much like the first. It was scrappy and untidy. We changed our shape in an attempt to get more of the ball in the middle of the park so that our forwards could push on.
"John Gorman did get over one decent centre that we nearly got on the end of, but I don't think the Blackburn keeper had a save to make in the 90 minutes.
"Looking back, our under 18s have done a tremendous job. We have had more than our share of injuries - I don't want to harp on about it but it has affected us although it has given opportunities to players who wouldn't otherwise have figured.
"Although we were short today, I have been pleased with the progress the lads have made and I sincerely hope they will carry on with their progression next season.
"They have to remember that if they want stand a chance of going on and getting into the first team squad, they will have to continue working as hard as they possibly can."
