A Clean Sheet In Win At Barnsley

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

Second-half goals from Andre Landell and Liam McAlindon gave Wolves under 18s victory over Barnsley at the Oakwell Academy on Saturday.

On a pitch described by coach Mick Halsall as 'lively', both teams struggled to settle with chances few and far between.

But the breakthrough, when it arrived in the 65th minute, went the way of Wolves in a move started and finished by Landell (pictured).

He fed Johnny Gorman who in turn found Nathan Rooney. Jack Metcalf drew the home defence with a run down the right flank allowing Rooney to lay the ball off into the path of Landell who found the net with a low drive from 20-yards.

Barnsley fought hard to get back onto level terms but the visiting defence held firm and two minutes from time McAlindon scored with an overhead kick following a Rooney corner.

Mick Halsall said: "It was pleasing not only to win, but also to keep a clean sheet. We certainly deserved it and I'm hoping that we can put a good run together between now and the end of the season."
