Kids Win After Early Setback

Posted on: Mon 01 Mar 2010

After conceding an early goal, the Molineux Academy Under 18s hit back and eventually came out on top of a five goal contest with Bolton at Compton Park at the weekend.

Just two minutes had gone when the visitors moved into the lead thanks to a free-kick that took a deflection from a Wolves player on its way into the net.

But an equalizer wasn't long in coming with John Gorman tucking the ball away at the far post after Nathaniel Mendez-Laing had delivered a low cross.

In the 16th minute Nathan Rooney fired Wolves into the lead after Andre Landell had pulled the ball back into his team-mate's path.

But, almost immediately, Bolton were back on level terms when once again they converted a free-kick.

What turned out to be the winning goal arrived midway through the second period as James Spray latched onto Jack Metcalf's through pass and lobbed the advancing keeper.

Coach Mick Halsall said: "I was pleased with the overall performance although we obviously need to work on defending at free-kicks and will be doing so in training this week."
