Defeat On Merseyside

Posted on: Mon 15 Feb 2010

After good results in their previous two games against Liverpool and Crewe, Wolves Academy under 18s slipped to a disappointing 3-0 defeat when they met Everton on Merseyside at the weekend.

There were few chances for either side before the break but it took the Goodison side just three minutes into the second half to make the breakthrough.

The home side won a free-kick some 22-yards out and Nathan Criag smashed the ball past the wall and into the bottom corner.

Just before the hour mark Hallam Hope ran onto a through pass and beat Aaron McCarey (pictured) in the Wolves goal from just inside the box.

Conor McAleny completed the scoring with an 81st minute tap in.

Coach Mick Halsall said: "Poor decision making and players not doing their jobs properly proved to be costly for us.

"It was a disappointing display particularly given the way we played in the games at Liverpool and Crewe. I will certainly be looking for an improvement when we play West Bromwich at the weekend."
