Wolves Academy Under-18s have been backed to bounce back from a disappointing week after following up their FA Youth Cup defeat to Liverpool with a 6-1 reverse at Manchester City.

Academy manager Kevin Thelwell admits it was a poor performance which saw Wolves concede six on Saturday, albeit three of which came in the last five minutes of the game.

With Wolves following the policy of fielding a young Academy team sprinkled with first year scholars and also schoolboys, it's also the sort of result which may well happen from time to time as the youngsters are handed vital match experience.

"It was a disappointing end to a disappointing week," said Kevin.

"Having under-performed as a team in the cup at Liverpool, we then concede six on Saturday although in a strange way we were actually in the game for long periods.

"Just after the hour mark  James Spray got our goal which made the score 3-1 and our tails were up but then we folded again and let in another three goals late on.

"I've said before that we do play a young team with the intention of giving them experience and when that happens there is always the chance they will get unravelled from time to time.

"So although there's no getting away from the fact it was a poor performance and disappointing result, the lads have to learn from the experience and move on.

"I've obviously discussed the game at length with Mick (Halsall) and we'll watch the video but the lads have come in this morning bright eyed and bushy tailed and ready to get back to work to put things right."

The Under-18s next fixture is home to Everton on Saturday.
