Wolves Academy Under-18s produced an impressive display to overcome last season's FA Youth Cup Finalists Liverpool at a wet and windy Compton on Saturday.

A competitive contest sprung to life on the goalscoring front in the closing 20 minutes, and it was Wolves who emerged with the lion's share of the three goals to claim the victory.

Andre Landell, pictured, broke the deadlock before Liverpool's Andre Wisdom drew the Reds level but a winner from Jack Price ensured Wolves weren't to be denied.

"It was a very hard-fought and competitive game played in difficult conditions," said Wolves Academy manager Kevin Thelwell.

"There was nothing between the two sides at all and I think that showed in the scoreline and the fact it was still goalless after 70 minutes.

"We broke the deadlock when Nat Mendez-Laing broke, beat his full back and put in a cross which allowed Andre to slide the ball into the corner.

"Liverpool equalised shortly afterwards when their centre half Andre Wisdom volleyed in a free kick but we managed to hit back to get the winner.

"Again it was Natty who beat his full back before delivering a cross and after a bit of a scramble Jack found space on the far side before tucking the ball away.

"From there we managed to see the game out.

"We put out a young team for the age group with three under-16s involved and bearing in mind Liverpool are one the most established teams in the country at this level it was a very good performance from the lads to record the win."
