An early Bolton goal settled matters and left the Wolves Academy Under 18s pointless from their trip to the north west on Saturday.
Wolves dominated for the vast majority of the game but they couldn't get the goal their attacking play merited although both staff and players are convinced that they should have had an equaliser..
Academy manager Kevin Thelwell said: "We decided to field a young team again with just two second years - the rest of the squad being comprised of first year scholars and under 16s.
"The conditions were terrible with wind and rain making it difficult for both sides.
"We went a goal down after seven minutes which was disappointing. They put in a cross that skidded along the wet surface and one off their strikers nipped in and just got a touch to put it in the far corner.
"But from that moment on we dominated the game. We had three one on ones the first two of which were missed. But from the third we felt that Andre Landell had scored when he lifted the ball over the keeper who then ran back and scooped it away.
"From where I was stood the ball looked to be well over the line but the linesman and ref weren't up with play and they didn't allow it. Andre had already wheeled away celebrating and, like the rest of us, he was amazed when play was waved on.
"Looking back at the game overall, there are some little things we need to work on but the only real disappointment was that we didn't get anything from the game because we certainly deserved to.
"At the end the Bolton under 18s coach Pete Farrell admitted to me that we were the better team. But we just couldn't do what Bolton had done, and that was to score a goal.
"It was a great performance, we just couldn't score.'
