Wolves Academy enjoyed a successful weekend of action against local rivals West Bromwich Albion winning both Saturday's under-18 and under-16 fixtures at Compton and also the lion's share of the younger age group games played yesterday.
Both of Saturday's victories were by the same 1-0 scoreline, with the under-18s producing the perfect response to the previous weekend's 7-4 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield.
Wolves had the better of the first half with a number of chances to score before James Spray. pictured, popped up with a terrific run and finish for a well worked goal.
Wolves then lost both James and influential midfielder Louis Harris to injury in the second half and Albion came strongly back into the game.
But Wolves were able to defend well and soak up the pressure to emerge good value for the points against a team now coached by former Molineux favourite Keith Downing.
"There was a local derby atmosphere and it was a really good game," Academy manager Kevin Thelwell said of the under-18s victory.
"It was a thoroughly deserved win and a terrific response by the boys to the result at Huddersfield.
"We said beforehand that maybe one goal one win it and that's how it proved so for the team to put on such a solid performance and keep a clean sheet did them great credit.
"What's more the under-16s, who lost two of their strongest players to the 18s side, also came away with a 1-0 victory.
"Those two wins, as well as the results yesterday, are a really good marker for where we are at the moment and the fact that the Academy is in good shape moving forward."
Under-18s coach Mick Halsall was also delighted with the result.
"This was a very good performance from all the players that took part in the game from start to finish," he added.
