Wolves Academy manager Kevin Thelwell insists his young team will learn a great deal from Saturday's 7-4 defeat at the hands of Huddersfield.
The Academy side fielded three-under-16s in their ranks against a strong Huddersfield outfit boasting no fewer than three professionals.
And while the game was generally evenly contested, the home side proved stronger and more adept at taking their chances particularly in the second half.
Wolves actually led twice in the first period, firstly through Liam McAlinden, pictured, and then Nathan Rooney, but after notching two quick equalisers Huddersfield struck again just before the break to get their noses in front.
The game continued to be closely contested after the break, but Huddersfield struck twice to go 5-2 in front.
Rooney narrowed the advantage with his second goal only for the home side to respond again, as they did after Sam Griffiths had notched Wolves' fourth to complete the scoring.
"We continued our policy of putting out a very young side in our Academy fixtures and are also perhaps a victim of our own success in the fact that we've lost the likes of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and James Spray to the Development squad," said Kevin.
"Huddersfield fielded a much older team, but it will have been good experience for our players who have got to learn to compete and play in games like this.
"They are on a steep learning curve, no question, but it's fair to say that throughout pre-season and at the start of the league campaign this is the only blemish so far - they have been absolutely terrific.
"They've also come back in again today and been keen to look at ways to put things right and get 'back on the horse'.
"They worked really well in training today and we've got a week of preparation ahead before a big game on Saturday against West Brom."
