After the disappointment of the midweek defeat at Sunderland when they lost out to a stoppage time goal, the Academy under 18s enjoyed a better outcome when they made another trek to the north east by taking a point from Newcastle on Saturday.
In a match that was dominated by the weather, James Spray, one of the schoolboys currently in the team, grabbed an equaliser midway through the second-half after Wolves had conceded an early goal.
Coach John Perkins said: "It was the second time in five days that we have had to make the long journey north. It was unbelievably blustery when we got there and Newcastle had the advantage of having the wind at their backs in the first-half.
"They were well on top in the opening 15 minutes and Daniel Wright pulling off two excellent saves. But he had stood little chance when he was beaten in the seventh minute by Frank Danquah who won possession in midfield and ran through to score. Even then Daniel managed to get a hand to the ball.
"We went close to levelling when James Spray shot narrowly over after taking a return pass from Kyle Bennett but Newcastle could have had a second when they had a penalty which Danquah hit over the bar.
"With the wind at our backs, the second-half was a different story. We made a couple of changes during the interval and soon got to grips with the game.
"We equalised in the 66th minute when Jack Price played a great ball through to James who scored with a low, angled shot into the far corner of the net.
"Nathan Rooney, one of our substitutes, went close after he had taken another good pass from Jack, and in the dying minutes Sam Winnall just missed the target.
"We had to absorb a fair bit of pressure before the break and I thought that Mark Connolly and Danny Batth did really well in central defence.
"But our second-half performance was a another matter and we were unlucky not to have gone on and won the game."
