Bennett Goal Earns A Point

Posted on: Mon 24 Nov 2008

The Wolves Academy under 18s excelled by taking a point from the weekend's trip to high flying Manchester City.

City are unbeaten this season and despite the Molineux youngsters being without three regulars, they still secured a point thanks to a goal from Kyle Bennett.

Coach John Perkins said: "We were without David Davis, James Davis, Mark Connolly, and Ashley Hemmings but the players that came in for them - namely Mick Wardle, Nathan Rooney, Jamie Reckord and schoolboy Ethan Banks-Landell, who was making his youth team debut, all did a magnificent job.

"City put us under intense pressure in the opening minutes and Danny Batth and skipper Johnny Dunleavy both had to make last ditch tackles to protect our goal.

"But we slowly worked our way into the game and could have taken the lead through Danny who headed just wide following a corner.

"We went into the break at 0-0 but City were back on top after the restart and they eventually made the breakthrough after an hour when we lost possession and conceded from 12-yards.

"But we responded well and hit back to equalise with 15 minutes left when Kyle Bennett headed in from eight-yards after some good work from Michael Wardle and Sam Winnall.

"Our defence had to work overtime in the closing minutes but we held on for what I thought was a thoroughly deserved draw against one of the top youth teams in the country."
