Wolves Academy made it two successive victories as they despatched Blackburn 3-0 at Compton on Saturday.

The under-18s followed up a win at Stoke by another success on home soil, benefiting from starting the game at a high tempo and going ahead on just five minutes.

Wolves won a corner which David Davis knocked into the penalty area and Danny Batth headed home to open the scoring.

Wolves continued to show some impressive passing and movement and went further ahead with just 12 minutes on the clock.

Mark Connolly produced a 40-yard diagonal ball for Ashley Hemmings and the striker ran on to beat a defender and the goalkeeper to double Wolves' advantage.

The hosts overcame the loss of Davis to a leg injury - Michael Wardle coming off the bench - and almost made it three on the half hour mark as Hemmings hit the post after good work from Kyle Bennett and Fungandel Moke.

But they duly increased their lead shortly after the break as Bennett and Johnny Dunleavy were involved in the move which finished with Nathaniel Mendes-Laing finding the far corner with a shot from 12 yards.

Blackburn pulled a goal back through Jason Lowe on 67 minutes and then put further pressure on the Wolves defence.

But keeper Richard Woolley made two good saves but that apart central defenders Batth and Connolly stood firm, well supported by left back Jamie Reckord.

Coach John Perkins reflected:  "I felt we fully deserved the victory with some good football played in stages, and when called upon the lads also defended well throughout the team."
