A John Dunleavy goal was enough to give the Wolves Academy under 18s victory over Stoke when the teams met in the Potteries on Saturday.

And according to coach John Perkins, despite the narrow margin of the win, it was one of the Molineux youngsters' best showings of the campaign.

"We were on top from the start and forced four corners inside the first ten minutes," said John.

"David Davis took the corners and from one of them Ashley Hemmings headed just wide.

"We had a good first half creating several openings and my only criticism was that we didn't take any of the chances we made.

"But we made the breakthrough ten minutes after the break when John Dunleavy played a one-two with Sam Winnall and hit a shot into the top corner from 15-yards out.

"We nearly had a second when David Davis and Kyle Bennett combined to send Ashley through but his shot went narrowly wide.

"Stoke did put us under a bit of pressure in the closing stages and Richard Woolley made one outstanding save.

"But we held on to our lead and deserved the win. Scott Malone was superb on the left defending well and making some good forward runs.

"Overall it was one of our best performances of the season but we really should have scored more goals."
