Terriers Sunk By Second-Half Strikes

Posted on: Mon 22 Sep 2008

Wolves Academy under 18s enjoyed a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Compton Park on Saturday.

Ashley Hemmings and Sam Winnall were on target for the Molineux youngsters with second-half strikes against the Yorkshire team.

Coach John Perkins said: "Although Huddersfield have a well organised team, I felt that we held the upper hand in the opening half although we didn't convert that into goals.

"Our work rate, shape and organisation was excellent especially in the first 20 minutes after the slow starts we had made in our previous two games.

"We had two or three fairly decent chances before the break whilst Huddersfield were a threat from some well worked set pieces.

"We took the lead in the 55th minute through Ashley Hemmings. He broke clear and I thought he had overrun the ball and taken it too wide but he managed to score from the tightest of angles.

"After the goal we continued to press and enjoyed the majority of the attacking play. So it was no surprise when we went two up in the 76th minute through Sam Winnall (pictured) who ran onto a through ball and converted from near the penalty spot.

"Our concentration slipped a little in the closing minutes. The lads must learn to see out the 90 minutes because, if you are two up and concede one, you leave yourself open to some heavy pressure as teams go for an equaliser.

"Having said that, this was a good team performance and we deserved the win."
