Yorkshire Draw

Posted on: Mon 14 Apr 2008

Wolves Academy under 18s took a point from their trip to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend with both sides scoring with impressive long range efforts.

The Yorkshire team had much the better of the first half and, in the 24th minute, Callum Harrison struck a 25-yard shot that flew into the top corner giving keeper Billy Lumley no chance.

After the break Wolves began to assert some authority on the game and they deservedly drew level in the 66th minute through Kyle Bennett who beat a defender before driving the ball home from a similar distance to that of Harrison's strike.

Play was fairly even after the equalising goal with Ashley Hemmings and Sam Winnall both going close for Wanderers whilst Lumley was at his best in keeping out two efforts from the Wednesday strikeforce.

Coach John Perkins said: "We just didn't get going in the first-half and I had a few words with the lads at the interval.

"It seemed to do the trick for we were the better team after the break.

"David Davis, playing in an unaccustomed left back role, and John Dunleavy (pictured) were superb in defence and Kyle took his goal really well.

"Overall it was a fair enough result with Wednesday on top before the interval, and us after it."
