Liverpool 1 Wolves 1

The Wolves Academy under 18s took a creditable point away from their weekend meeting with Liverpool on Merseyside.

The Molineux side were well on top in the opening half and they took the lead in the 29th minute when Sam Winnall (pictured) converted a penalty following a handling offence by a Liverpool defender.

Ashley Hemmings and Kyle Bennett both forced good saves from the Liverpool keeper.

The home team came into the game a lot more after the interval and David Davis, Scott Malone and Tom Spalding all performed well in the Wanderers' defence.

Billy Lumley also pulled off two fine saves but he was beaten in the 61st minute by a long-range shot that levelled the scores.

Coach John Perkins said: "I was delighted with the performance, character and attitude of the side.

"Eight of our starting line-up had played in last Wednesday's reserve game on a heavy pitch at Bradford and it began to show in the closing stages as they understandably began to tire.

"But they battled on and in the end we took a well deserved point from a Liverpool side that was packed with youth internationals."
