Bennett Cracker Denies Baggies
A terrific Kyle Bennett goal gave Wolves a share of the spoils when the Academy under 18s met West Bromwich Albion at Compton Park on Saturday.
John Perkins' team found themselves under heavy pressure in the opening quarter-of-an-hour although Billy Lumley in the home goal didn't have any direct shots to deal with.
As the half drew on, Wolves got more and more into the game with Jon Dunleavy having a fine game at the back and Ashley Hemmings a threat to the Baggies defence whenever Wanderers went forward.
Hemmings was close to breaking through just before the interval with a header that flew just wide after a cross from Sam Winnall.
Ten minutes into the second-half, Albion moved ahead following a corner when one of their front men slipped his marker to score.
There was a suspicion of hand ball when an Alex Melbourne effort was cleared off the line after Winnall had pulled the ball back to him as Wolves went in search of an equaliser.
And they were rewarded in the 76th minute with a superb goal from Bennett (pictured) who picked up the ball 30-yards out and hit a stunning shot into the top corner.
Coach John Perkins said: "It was a great strike from Kyle and we had a couple of chances to win it after he had scored.
"But a draw was a fair enough result and I was pleased with the way we fought our way into the game after a very nervy opening."
