Wolves Youth Take Points At Stoke

Posted on: Mon 19 Nov 2007

Stoke 0 Wolves 2 (Hemmings pen, Melbourne)

Wolves' youth team enjoyed a good away win at Stoke, after dominating for long periods of the game.

The hosts could have taken and early lead when Fungandel Moke mistimed a tackle in the box but City's appeals for a penalty were turned down.

The Wanderers youngsters were slow to get started and keeper Billy Lumley was twice called upon in the first 20 minutes to prevent Stoke going ahead.

Then Wolves began to get into their stride and, on the half-hour mark, Alex Melbourne and Ashley Hemmings (pictured) combined to put Sam Winnall into the area where he was brought down by a Potters defender.

Hemmings stepped up to the spot to open the scoring.

The Molineux side picked up the second period from where they had left off. Winnall and Fabruce Kasiama both had one-on-one chances with the keeper but it wasn't until the 80th minute that the points looked safe. A ball played out of defence by Moke proved awkward for the keeper, who mishandled and presented Melbourne with the opportunity to score from an acute angle.

Wolves Coach John Perkins says: "The start was disappointing but once we got going we played well and could have won with a more convincing scoreline."

*Supporters are reminded that Wolves' reserve match v Port Vale, which was scheduled for tomorrow evening (Tuesday), has been postponed as Vale are involved in the FA Youth Cup.

The game will now take place on Wednesday 30 January, 2008.
