Wolves Youth 1 (Melbourne) Manchester United 3

Wolves were unlucky not to take a point off a strong Manchester United side after raising their performance and dominating the second period.

The Molineux side found themselves a goal down after ten minutes when The Reds broke from a Wolves corner and capitalised on some poor defending to take the lead.

The damage was compounded in the 25th minute when United doubled their lead with a goal struck from the edge of the box.

Wolves fought back and a four-man move resulted in a chance for Alex Melbourne (pictured) to shoot home from ten yards.

Wanderers came out fighting in the second half, pressing for an equaliser.

The hosts created several good chances, with James Davis heading against the bar before Melbourne, Kyle Bennett and Ashley Hemmings all forced good saves from the United keeper.

Despite this good work, the visitors won a late corner and scored a third goal with what proved to be the last kick of the game.

Wolves youth coach John Perkins says: "We were very average during the first half but stepped things up considerably for the second period.

"We played some of our best football so far this season but we need to learn that we have to capitalise on the chances we create."
