Baggies Beaten

Posted on: Mon 05 Nov 2007

The Wolves Academy under 18s twice came from a goal down to take the points from a visit to arch rivals West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Wolves had a good chance in the first minute after Kyle Bennett had played Ashley Hemmings through on goal but the Albion keeper made a fine save.

The first-half was an evenly fought out contest but the visitors were caught out in the 20th minute when Albion broke from defence and Billy Lumley was beaten by an angled shot.

Eight minutes after the break, Marcel Tulloch (pictured) fired Wolves level from 10-yards out after good work from David Davies and Hemmings had created the opportunity.

Within five minutes, The Baggies were back in front after one of their forwards had cut in from the right and shot home.

But Bennett, with a tremendous individual effort, restored parity with just over an hour gone. He took possession on the halfway line and beat five Albion men on a run to the home area before shooting into the net off the inside of a post.

The winning goal came five minutes from time when Tulloch turned on the edge of the box, beating his marker in the process, before finding the net with a low shot.

Coach John Perkins said of his side's performance: "We showed great character to come back twice.

"Marcel took his goals well, Kyle's effort was top quality and I thought that Danny Batth and Tom Spalding were excellent at the back.

"But what was really pleasing was the performance as a team. We played as a unit and were rewarded with three good points from an away game."
