Reds On Top

Posted on: Mon 15 Oct 2007

The Academy under 18s slipped to their heaviest defeat of the season as they went down 4-1 to a strong Liverpool side at Compton Park.

The Merseyside team, unbeaten since the first day of the season, included two Spanish youth internationals in their number and they went ahead midway through the first-half after Wolves failed to clear the danger.

But the Molineux youngsters fought back to equalise before the break when Kyle Bennett slipped the ball through to James Davis who beat the Liverpool keeper from just inside the area.

Costly defensive errors either side of a penalty, conceded by Danny Batth, saw the visitors move into a 4-1 lead with little over 15 minutes remaining.

In that time Fabruce Kasiama (pictured) was inches away from pulling one back and Batth saw his header cleared off the line.

Coach John Perkins said: "The mistakes we made in defence proved to be our undoing. But, as I've mentioned before, ours is a very young side and they are learning all the time.

"They couldn't be criticised for their work rate on Saturday and hopefully they will have learned from their mistakes."
