Gunners Go Through
Arsenal 3 (Sanu 41, 58, 74)
Wolves 1 (Winnall 86)
FA Youth Cup Round 4
Arsenal proved to be too strong for Wolves under 18s when the teams met at Barnet in a fourth round FA Youth Cup tie last night.
The Gunners took a three goal lead with home substitute Gilles Sunu bagging a hat-trick before Ashley Hemmings netted a late consolation effort for Wanderers.
Sunu scored his first in the 41st minute firing past Richard Woolley following a Henri Lansbury corner.
He struck again in the 58th and 74th minutes to put the game out of Wolves' reach before Hemmings glanced home a header following Scott Malone's corner four minutes from time.
The afternoon didn't get off to the best start for the Molineux youngsters as coach John Perkins explains.
He said: "Our coach broke down on the M1 and although we managed to limp to the services we had to wait an hour for a replacement.
"We were booked into a hotel for a pre-match meal but only arrived there 40 minutes before the kick-off. In fairness to Arsenal they offered to delay the start but we decided to go ahead at seven as scheduled.
"The plan in the first half was to contain Arsenal and not let them run away with things. We knew they would have a strong side out and in their number was Jack Wilshere who has played for them in the Champions League.
"Defensively we played well but they got the breakthrough just before the interval. During the break we changed things round a bit and went for a more attacking function and this really opened the game up.
"But Arsenal got two more to leave us with a mountain to climb. Ashley took his goal well and we could have had a penalty, or free-kick in a dangerous position, when Kyle Bennett ran through and was brought down on the edge of the box. It looked a clear foul but the referee waved play on.
"Against a talented Arsenal side I don't think we disgraced ourselves although I have to admit I was a bit disappointed that we didn't do better than we did.
"But we were beaten by the better team on the night."
