The Wolves Academy
The Academy aims to identify players with outstanding ability and place them in an environment designed to produce football and educational excellence.
The main objective is to develop a significant number of top quality players of Football League, Premiership and International status for Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club.
The Academy is committed to three main principles:
BEST PEOPLE, BEST FACILITIES, BEST PROVISIONS.
Youth development is seen as a priority at the club and accordingly receives enthusiastic support from the board of directors and the fans.
the Academy manager heading a team of nine full time officers and 70 part-time, has been nurturing talent at Wolves for 17 years. The Academy manager has written four extensive business plans which have resulted in significant success.
Such strategy embraces the Football Association's Charter for Quality, earning the club a reputation for a first class Academy.
Since the mid 90s, 30 players have graduated to the first team. Twenty four players have gained under 21 caps for their respective countries, with ten going on to gain senior international honours.
Such impressive record is further enhanced as 50% of the current first team squad have graduated from the Academy.
Several former Academy players have been transferred to other clubs for significant fees, notably Robbie Keane to Coventry for the then British record for a teenager of £6,000,000, and more recently Joleon Lescott to Everton for £5,000,000.
The state of the art facilities at the club's new training ground, together with a unique syllabi of football and expert technical staff delivering the programme, place the Academy and club in general, in a very strong position for consistent future success.
Indeed the quality and standard of the registered schoolboys (over 100) and apprentices (19 for season 2007/08) currently under tuition in the Academy are predicted to be the most exciting to date.
