Ladies take point from tough opposition

Wolves Women   1   (Wilson 16)

Nottingham Forest Ladies  1     (40)

Wolves Women battled hard against tough opposition to earn a good away point against Nottingham Forest on a cold and wet Sunday afternoon.

Confidence was high after their 4-0 Cup win over Preston North End, and it was Wolves who were first on the scoresheet in the 16th minute when Philippa Wilson, pictured, headed home a Becky Hall free-kick to take the lead.

Wolves' misfortune with injuries continued in the 26th minute when midfielder Kelly Pinner suffered a suspected broken ankle in a 50/50 tackle and was replaced by Anna Perks.

Forest were next to score, just five minutes before the break, smashing the ball through Wolves' crowded goalmouth and leaving keeper Natalie Hall unsighted to concede the equaliser.

The second half was quite even with both sides playing some good football, but cancelling each other out.

Wolves felt they should have won it towards the end, however, when Dani Selmes found herself one-on-one with the Forest keeper.

The league's top scorer sent her shot past the keeper, but the ball skimmed off the inside of the post and across the face of the goal to leave the visitors frustrated.

Manager James Astle said: "We weren't at our best today following the recent cup victory.

“After starting well and going ahead, we lost our tempo and looked off the pace.

"The second half was much better and whilst not pretty, we battled and worked harder.

"A credit to the team today, as we sustained yet another serious injury with Kelly Pinner needing to go to hospital.

“At the time of writing we don't know the extent of the injury, but we wish her all the best."
