Wolves Women impressed in a 5-1 friendly win away at Leicester City Women on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon.

New manager Trevor Mullings was trying out several youngsters, as well as putting into practice some of the set pieces they'd been working on in training.

Leicester were first on the score sheet, despatching a penalty in the eighth minute. Just seven minutes later though, Dani Selmes, pictured, equalised, side-footing into the net after a pass from Becky Hall.

Reserve team graduate Lauren Williams was next on the score sheet in the 38th minute, with an impressive side foot volley from a corner, putting Wolves 2-1 up.

With confidence high, winger Jamilla Palmer scored the next two goals. On 49 minutes she beat her defender to smash the ball into the top corner of the net. Then nine minutes later it was the bottom corner from an acute angle with an excellent finish.

There was still one more goal to come for Wolves, as Selmes was brought down in the area in front of an open goal in the 78th minute. She got straight up to score the penalty and make it 5-1in a dominant performance.

Manager Trevor Mullings said: "I'm really pleased with today's performance, especially as what we worked on in training came off in the game.

"The young players didn't look out of place, with the likes of Lauren Williams and Summer Holmes impressing after their season with the Reserves last year, and newcomer Dominique Luke getting her first run out in midfield.

"It's early days but there's a lot of enthusiasm and I'm pleased with how things are going so far."

*Next Sunday 11th August will be another tough test as Wolves entertain Southern Division side Lewes in another friendly. The game will be played at Castlecroft Stadium, Castlecroft Road, Wolverhampton, with a 2pm kick-off.

The season starts with an away fixture at Derby County on Sunday 25th August.
