The Academy under 18s didn’t get their New Year off to the best of starts as they slipped to a disappointing defeat on Tyneside.
However, coach Sean Parrish did take some positives with the game with Newcastle despite the reversal.
He said: “We lost 3-0 and I still feel disappointed that we didn't take something out the game as we played some good football during the first half but could not find the required quality when needed especially in the final third.
“It was goalless at the break and I remained confident that if we improved in one or two area's we would eventually go on and win the game.
“To perform to your best ability for 90 minutes is not only physically tough, but it can also be very demanding mentally and this seemed to let us down as we conceded a poor goal early in the second half which seemed to put us on the back foot and obviously raised Newcastle's confidence.
“We continued to push forward but again lacked a killer instinct on the day and eventually conceded two more late goals.”
