26-man party to make the trip

Wolves are taking a squad of 26 on this week’s pre-season tour of Ireland, culminating in Saturday’s first pre-season friendly against Bray Wanderers.

The week at the Carton House Hotel in Kildare will give boss Ståle Solbakken a chance to start putting across his tactical ideas to the squad along with the continuing fitness work being led by Tony Daley.

As already revealed, out-of-contract Jody Craddock will not be on the trip as the club and experienced defender are set for further talks on his future.

The Irish trio who travelled to the European Championships – Stephen Ward, Stephen Hunt and Kevin Doyle – and Adlene Guedioura, who has had an extensive international programme with Algeria,  will also not travel as they have a further week’s break before reporting back.

Michael Kightly also stays behind as his partner is due to give birth but new signing Björn Sigurdarson is expected to join the trip once he has completed his medical.

The week also offers some of the club’s younger professionals the chance to impress, with Aaron McCarey, Danny Batth, David Davis, Anthony Forde, Matt Doherty and Jamie Reckord all joining another new striker Frank Nouble in the party.
