Kenny Jackett believes Jack Price has the right assets for a promising future after his first team breakthrough this season.
With Wolves having further year’s option on the midfielder’s contract after the summer, there haven’t been any fresh negotiations on yet as to a potential new deal for the Shrewsbury-born 21-year-old.
But it could well be on the agenda if Price continues to show the same sort of form he has done this season in the heart of the Wolves engine room.
“It’s not one that we’ve necessarily talked about but he’s a player that I like,” said Jackett.
“Before this year he hadn’t played any games or been out on loan.
“Speaking to people who’ve been here some time such as Kevin Thelwell, they’ve kept Price in the system because of his qualities and his potential as a late developer.
“That looks a good decision now and some good management by Kevin and by Wolves.
“By giving him that extra year and judging him at 20 looks a good decision now because he has come through this season and in recent times has shown a maturity beyond his years and experience.
“He’s formed a very good partnership with Kevin McDonald – he senses danger and he is very good defensively as well.
“He reads the game and he is not easy to get the other side of and he makes very few mistakes for a young player – he’s very consistent."
Jackett continued: “Wolves have a very good player on their hands.
“It (contract) isn’t necessarily one we have discussed because all our energies have been on making sure we get as good a squad for this season as possible to keep pace with a very good top of League One.
“But I do like Jack and I’ve picked him plenty of times in his first season of senior football so that’s the proof in the pudding.
“I do think he’s got a very good future and a very good future at Wolves.”
