Dave Wagstaffe funeral

St Peter’s Church was packed to the rafters this afternoon as Wolves supporters joined friends and family of Dave Wagstaffe to pay tribute to the Molineux legend.

The funeral cortege passed by the Molineux Stadium which Waggy used to grace enroute to the service, with supporters and members of Wolves’ office staff breaking into spontaneous applause after an initial moment of silence.

The coffin was carried into the church to the strains of ‘Hi Ho Silver Lining’ and exited to ‘Daybream Believer’ by the Monkees, whose lead singer Davy Jones got to know Waggy after they met as youngsters in Manchester.

The service, led by Wolverhampton Rector The Rev David Wright, included a reading from legendary Wolves striker John Richards, words from Dave’s son Scott, and an address from family friend and journalist Steve Gordos.

The funeral service was followed by a private cremation at Bushbury before invited guests returned to Molineux.
