Keeper Aaron McCarey is to join York City on loan until January 4 – having also agreed a new contract to keep him at Molineux until at least the summer of 2016.
McCarey had already agreed the new two-and-a-half year deal, coming into effect on December 1, before the loan interest which will see him hoping to enjoy some regular first team football with the Sky Bet League Two side.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is highly thought of at Molineux hence why the club have been keen to secure his future.
Having enjoyed a loan spell with Walsall last season, the 21-year-old made an impressive first senior appearance with Wolves against the Saddlers, proving the penalty shootout hero in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy fixture earlier this season.
That aside he has been a regular on the substitutes bench and pushing Carl Ikeme in training in a strong Wolves’ goalkeeping department strengthened even further by the return of Wayne Hennessey from his successful loan spell with Yeovil after a long spell on the sidelines with injury.
McCarey’s loan has the potential to take in seven fixtures, starting with York’s home game with Rochdale on Saturday.
McCarey's temporary departure was the only activity at Molineux on the day of the deadline for emergency loans, with no players now able to move in or out until the transfer window re-opens in January.
