Kenny Jackett today greeted the announcement of fixtures for the new season by looking forward to a “new and exciting era” for Wolves.
With Wolves heading into League 1 after back-to-back relegations, the Head Coach is now focused on bringing in a positive mentality to the squad and ensuring a team of players which will be ready to shrug off recent disappointments by the time the big kick-off comes around.
As revealed yesterday, Wolves will start the season at fellow Football League founder members Preston scheduled for August 3, before a Capital One Cup tie at Morecambe in midweek and then the first home game against Gillingham on August 10.
While closer perusal of the challenges thrown up by the fixture list will follow, Jackett is currently focused firmly on how Wolves will prepare, a process well underway ahead of the players returning to kick off pre-season training next week.
“I think Preston away is a good start for us,” he says.
“They are a big club who have spent a lot of time in the Championship in recent years so it will be a big test.
“It is two founder members of the league as well so there is a bit of history in there and I think it’s a good fixture to kick off with.
“We then go to Morecambe in the Capital One Cup and from there the fixtures come thick and fast.
“The main thing for me is to concentrate on us and focus on what we are doing and looking forward to a new and exciting era for the club.
“There is understandably always a lot of interest in the fixtures but for me it is about concentrating on our performances and what we are going to do.
“It is about us playing well, getting results and having a successful season.
“The players return next week and from there it’s about putting a team together that will be ready to go for the start of the season.
“I want to see a reaction from the players to what has been a very disappointing time for the supporters and everyone at the club.
“When the season starts everyone will be wanting to see some winning performances and some entertaining performances as we go into the new era.”
