Carl Ikeme missed his first League action of the season when he dislocated a little finger and was replaced by Dorus De Vries after 66 minutes of Tuesday’s game with Millwall.
The only other fixture he had missed was the Capital One Cup tie at Chelsea in September but he is confident of being fit enough to make the trip to Bristol City at the weekend.
Explaining how he picked up the injury, he said: “I went to collect a high ball and my finger came into collision with Roger’s head which is very boney!
“When the physio first came on he popped it back into place and I thought that I’d be ok to carry on.
“What eventually forced me off wasn’t so much the pain, but the loss of feeling in my hand. It just went completely numb.
“It was a tight match and I didn’t want to risk the hand letting the the team down when we had a perfectly fit and able keeper on the bench in Dorus. So I decided it would be best if I came off even though I didn’t really want to.
“I had an early save to make when the ball took a deflection off Stears, but other than that and a few crosses I didn’t have a lot to do.
“We were all bitterly disappointed in the dressing room afterwards but now we can only look forward to Bristol City at the weekend and hopefully turn things around.
“And, with a little bit of luck I’ll be involved.”
