Wolves Women eased their way comfortably into the next round of the Birmingham County Cup courtesy of a 5-1 home victory over Bilbrook.

Newcomer Jade Hewitt. pictured, blazed a trail with a hat trick, and goals from Anna Perks and Jordan Timmins-Ray completed the scoring.

The game was played by a predominantly young Wolves side with a few senior players under Reserve Team Manager Trevor Mullings.

The tie, held in brilliant winter sunshine at Bentley Leisure Pavilion, could not have started more disastrously for the Old Gold Girls however as Bilbrook snatched a 1-0 lead within two minutes of the kick off.

For the next 20 minutes Wolves piled the pressure on the Bilbrook penalty area with darting runs from Chanelle Hooper and Timmins-Ray providing a series of half chances for Hewitt.

In the 22nd minute another through ball from Timmins-Ray was taken on perfectly by Hewitt to bring the teams level.

Further chances came and went but at half time Wolves still had work to do if they were to progress.

The second half kicked off with Wolves redoubling their efforts on the Bilbrook goal.

Timmins-Ray again found Hewitt in the box only for the striker to scuff her shot high and wide, while neat interplay between Leanne Rimmer and Hooper saw Hewitt's effort cleared off the line.

In the 66th minute substitute Perks found Hooper, whose slick through ball put in Hewitt for her second.

And within two minutes of the restart Hewitt claimed her hat trick with another well taken goal.

Wolves were on top now and Perks made it four with a fine headed goal from a corner, before Timmins-Ray rounded off the scoring as she capitalised on a poor kick from the Bilbrook keeper, which landed at her feet, catching out the defence.

Manager Trevor Mullings said: “We started slowly today, but eventually got organised and in the end our quality showed. Credit to Bilbrook though, they seized the early initiative and made us work hard for the victory”.

Team: Oldacre, L.Williams, E.Cross, Cook, H.Williams, Palin, Rimmer (Perks), Berry, Hewitt, Timmins-Ray (Barnes-Davies), Hooper (Price).
