Wolves Academy Under-18s kicked off their season in fine style at Leicester with an emphatic 6-1 victory.
Ibrahim Keita led the way with a hat trick, the first of which came via a left foot shot on three minutes.
Peter Smith added a second with a left foot curler before Declan Weeks made it three, scoring with his second attempt after an intelligent run into the penalty area.
Leicester pulled a goal back from a penalty just before the break but Wolves restored the initiative after the interval, Keita scoring twice to complete his treble and Cieron Keane’s excellent cross forcing an own goal.
“This was a very good start from the players and they now have to try to build upon this in the games coming up,” said coach Mick Halsall.
“We, the players, myself and Sean (Parrish) have said from the very start of pre-season how difficult it will be due to the league programme we are involved in so and this result will probably make life even more difficult because it will alert the teams we are due to play, especially in the first month of the season.
“They will be up for it and our lads will have to be the same as they cannot take anything for granted after this one result.
“They have to show how good they are as players and see if they can maintain an upward trend.”
