Kenny Jackett has ruled Matt Doherty out of his plans for Saturday’s trip to Bradford City due to his hamstring injury – but says he could be back in contention for the visit of Stevenage in nine days time.
Doherty limped off during the first half of Tuesday’s win against Oldham with a hamstring injury, and further assessment has revealed it is not as serious as first feared.
And while the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international is set to lose his ever present record, Jackett is pleased the injury is not more serious.
“Matt won’t make the weekend, but his injury is not as bad as first thought,” said the Head Coach.
“I think he has a chance for next week.
“We have done well with injuries so far this season, and haven’t lost our regular players for any length of time.
“And we wouldn’t want to lose Matt for too long because he has been an important player for us.
“He has not only been good defensively but also going forward and has created plenty of chances for the team.”
