Wolves are pleased to announce that Matt Doherty has signed a new contract which has secured his future until the summer of 2016.
The three-year deal will see Doherty, currently with the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad ahead of Monday’s UEFA qualifier with Germany, aim to build on his impressive form at the start of the campaign where he has continued the good impression made during his first sustained run at the back end of last season.
Head Coach Kenny Jackett said: “Matt Doherty has made a very good start to the season, generally being defensively sound and has created chances and goals for us going forward.
“I have been pleased that he has built to the good start to his run in the team last season which has resulted in the club stepping in very early this season to negotiate a new contract.
“As the Head Coach I am very pleased we have concluded this quickly and that both the club and Matt see the future here for a young player who has been very good so far.”
CEO Jez Moxey said: “We took up a one-year option on Matt’s contract at the end of last season, and his impressive form both in pre-season and the first few games has now seen him rewarded with a longer term deal.
“Matt joins Leigh Griffiths in committing his future to Wolves since returning for the new season, and hopefully there will more players to follow who will feel they are best served in being part of a very exciting time for everyone at the club.”
