The Academy Development Centre has now kicked off its fifth season after 2012/13 proved to be another successful year for the programme.
Four players during the season showed the promise and potential to progress from the centre to Academy trial and then sign a schoolboy contract with their respective age groups, something that is not only credit to the players that achieved this but also the coaching staff that are involved in the Development Centre process.
The Development Centre provides a creative learning environment for players aged five to 10 years old, allowing them to develop their individual technical abilities and giving them the opportunity to work with FA qualified coaches that also have the experience of working with our Foundation Phase players in the Academy.
Marc Campbell, Development Centre programme co-ordinator and Lead Foundation Phase Coach for the Academy, explains: “The fact that many of our coaching staff at our Development Centres also coach within our Foundation Phase at the Academy really allows the players to progress and hopefully develop the characteristics that they will need if they are selected for an Academy trial.
“The fact that we have been so successful in the past proves that the process works and we are keen to work with our (Wolves) Community Trust and local grassroots clubs to provide opportunities for players to Develop in the Development Centre Programme.”
Players in the Wolverhampton and local areas have the opportunity to enter the Development Pathway (see picture) through various activities hosted by Wolves Community Trust and if they show potential can enter the advanced centre programme. From there, players have the opportunity to be promoted to the Development Centre programme and continue their progress.
The Development Centres operate at various locations (Wolverhampton, Cannock and Walsall) on Friday evenings for boys aged six to 10 years old. For further information on our Development Centre please email: email@example.com.
