“Just win our game” – that’s the message from Wolves boss Dean Saunders ahead of Saturday’s season’s finale at Brighton.
Wolves need not only to win but also for both Barnsley and Peterborough to lose – with a five-goal swing with the latter – and Saunders knows that survival is now highly unlikely.
But he wants the team to at least try and end a disappointing season on a winning note against promotion-chasing Brighton, and then see what happens elsewhere.
“We have to try and make something happen, and if it doesn’t we will start again,” said the boss.
“When you look at Aston Villa and their result last night, they have had an 11-goal swing on goal difference over Newcastle in two days.
“These kind of things happen in football every season, and if we were to win on Saturday – and the other two teams lose – it is going to be touch and go on goal difference.
“If we win our game and Barnsley and Peterborough lose, it is going to be within a goal or two – it is unlikely but not impossible.
“We’ve just got to go there with belief that we can win our game, then we need Crystal Palace to turn on a performance against Peterborough.
“And Barnsley have a derby against Huddersfield which will be a close game.”
Wolves will be taking a sellout following for their first visit to the Amex Stadium, with the 2,000 tickets snapped up last week.
