A Wolves XI including many senior players came away from the New Bucks Head with a 1-1 draw against a lively AFC Telford United side in a pre-season friendly.
Wolves led at half time through Kevin Doyle and should perhaps have been further in front but Telford came far more into the game after the break and equalised through Steve Akrigg.
Both teams then had chances to win the game with Jamie O’Hara not far away for Wolves and Aaron McCarey making a fine save at the other end to preserve a share of the spoils.
Doyle was joined by Stephen Ward and Tongo Doumbia in enjoying their first Wolves action of pre-season, and all three were withdrawn as planned at the interval.
The Irish striker had been heavily involved in the first half action, not only capitalising on a Doumbia break to score with a left foot shot but also having another effort clawed around the post and firing over after a one-two with Razak Boukari.
Boukari however unfortunately limped out of the action just after the half hour mark with a hamstring injury.
O’Hara also twice tested Telford keeper Jonathan Hedge but at the other end McCarey had his hands warmed by a good effort from Charlie Barnett.
The hosts started the better side after the interval with Tony Gray off target after working a good position but Wolves then pegged back on 68 minutes when Akrigg lashed home a low Barnett free kick.
Wolves were still looking lively in attack with Jake Cassidy teeing up Anthony Forde for an attempted backheel shortly after the Irish winger had latched onto a crossfield O’Hara pass and cut inside before curling an effort not far off target.
McCarey then came to the fore six minutes from time to keep the scores level with a fine diving save from a shot from Josh Hancock.
O’Hara then broke late on and fed the threatening McAlinden who was just unable to get his shot away before the midfielder also tried his luck with a low shot which dragged wide of the upright.
