Wolves have completed a deal to sign talented young striker Benik Afobe from Arsenal.
The pacey 21-year-old frontman, who has been on loan at MK Dons so far this season, has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract to join from the Gunners for an undisclosed fee.
Afobe will be available to Kenny Jackett for the first time when Blackpool visit Molineux on Saturday (3pm).
Head of Football Development Kevin Thelwell said: “Having now met Benik he seems like a really outstanding young man and is the right sort of person for us.
“And of course also the right player, who I think is going to fit very well into our system.
“He is very pacey and powerful, good technically, and has an outstanding goalscoring record.
“He is young and fits the sort of profile we are going for and we are really excited about him signing.
“I am sure he is going to work really hard for us and be a success here in helping us get to where we want to be.”
An England Under-21 international, London-born Afobe joined the Arsenal Academy at a young age, progressing through the ranks to include a prolific goalscoring record at Under-16 and Under-18 level.
He was an integral part of a second successive Premier League Under-18 title for Arsenal in the 2009/10 season, scoring 20 goals in 25 appearances including a hat trick in the final against Nottingham Forest.
Although his Arsenal senior action has been limited to featuring in the Emirates Cup in 2011, Afobe has furthered his footballing development and picked up plenty of experience while out on loan.
Prior to this season those loan spells comprised stays at Huddersfield, Reading, Bolton, Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday.
Afobe’s time with Millwall was while the Lions were under the stewardship of Kenny Jackett, but unfortunately at the end of his first month he was injured, in a game against Wolves at the New Den.
While earlier at Bolton he scored their first goal in a 2-2 draw with Wolves at Molineux.
This season the striker’s talents have re-emerged to the fore during an excellent spell with League One promotion-chasers MK Dons.
In 30 appearances Afobe has notched 19 goals, including a hat trick in a 6-0 victory over Colchester.
Perhaps the standout moment however was towards the start of the season when MK Dons welcomed Manchester United in the Capital One Cup.
On an electric night at Stadium mK Afobe came off the bench to notch twice against United to help seal a memorable 4-0 victory.
In his career so far Afobe has made 57 senior starts with a further 52 from the substitutes bench, scoring 32 goals.
His England experience began early, captaining England Under-12s at the Junior World Cup in France in 2005.
At 15, he then scored four goals in three games – equalling a record set by Michael Owen – as England Under-16s won the 2008 Victory Shield.
He was also part of the England Under-17 squad which won the 2010 European Championships, before moving on to feature both for the Under-19s and Under-21s.
