Wolves Women 0-0 Mansfield Town Ladies
Wolves Women came through unscathed in their final pre-season friendly, but couldn’t break the deadlock in a goalless draw at their new home at Hednesford Town.
Mansfield hit the post inside ten minutes before Jordan Timmins-Ray headed narrowly over from a Jen Anslow cross.
In a half of few chances, Wolves passed the ball around well at times, looking comfortable in possession, but just lacking that creative edge they needed to open the scoring.
As half time approached, some good build up play from Wolves saw Anslow, pictured, race on to a dropping ball but her volley flew wide.
The second half saw Wolves raise their tempo as they looked sharper. Anslow fired over from distance before Abi Hinton’s long range effort dipped wide.
Anslow hit the bar on the hour mark before going close once again from a free-kick.
Wolves best passage of play came down their right, as Jade Salisman linked well with Laura McQuilkin, whose first time cross was met by Jess Edwards, but her crisp volley rifled over the bar as Wolves tried in vain for the winning goal.
Overall Wolves will be disappointed that they didn’t win the game, but it was important to get another 90 minutes in before the start of the season, with strong defensive performances another highlight.
*Wolves kick off their season at Hednesford on Sunday, August 24th, with Derby the opponents.
