The fixtures for the 2014/15 Barclays Under-21 Premier League season have been released with Wolves opening their campaign against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Monday, August 18.
Scott Sellars' men will play two Under-21 fixtures at Molineux, taking on Middlesbrough on Monday, September 22 before facing West Bromwich Albion on Friday, January 18. Wolves round off their Under-21 campaign against Arsenal at Boreham Wood FC on Monday, May 18.
The competition has adopted a new format for the beginning of this season with the league being split into two divisions of 12.
Division 1 consists of the clubs who finished in the top 12 in the previous season’s 22-team division, while Division 2 will feature the remaining 10 clubs who will be joined by two new Under-21 teams, Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County who were both awarded Category One status.
Clubs will play each other home and away and the champions of Division 1 will be the team with the most points after 22 matches. There will be relegation and promotion between the two divisions at the end of the season with the top two teams from Division 2 replacing the bottom two sides in Division 1.
Ged Roddy, Premier League Director of Youth said: “The enhancements to the Barclays Under-21 Premier League will undoubtedly improve the competition and provide high level playing opportunities for young players that better prepare them for Premier League football.”
